Solar-powered seawater desalination (SSD) offers a promising and viable solution to water scarcity by harnessing solar energy. Herein, an inverted cone hydrogel was designed with gellan gum (GG) as the substrate and carbonized waste Iris sibirica L. as the light-absorbing material. The water state inside the evaporator is regulated by adding PEG to reduce the evaporation enthalpy. The structure can achieve high-efficiency solar absorption, fast substance transport and high stability.
