Mahamah (2025): West Africa’s rising tide: Shaping the future of marine geoengineering governance

Marine geoengineering (MGE) offers potential pathways to mitigate anthropogenic greenhouse gases through techniques such as carbon dioxide removal and solar radiation management. However, it also presents significant environmental risks and governance challenges. This article reviews the existing international governance framework on MGE, with specific reference to key instruments such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas, the London Convention and London Protocol, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the climate change regime.
