Webinar: Report Release and Public Briefing – A Research Strategy for Ocean CDR and Sequestration

The Committee on A Research Strategy for Ocean Carbon Dioxide Removal and Sequestration will be releasing their report entitled A Research Strategy for Ocean Carbon Dioxide Removal and Sequestration on December 8, 2021, at 11:00 AM ET. A public report release webinar will also be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET on December 8, 2021. The report provides a path forward for research and development needed to assess the viability of promising ocean-based CDR approaches.

Are Journalists Reporting on the Highest-Impact Climate Solutions? Findings from a Survey of Environmental Journalists

The climate solutions reporting interests and practices of environmental journalists (N = 592) were analysed, paying particular attention to negative emissions technologies (NETs). It is presented that most environmental journalists are reporting on adaptation and resilience stories and renewable energy stories; additionally, over half were interested in and had recently reported on negative emissions solutions.

Shokouhi et al (2021): Physics-informed deep learning for prediction of CO2 storage site response

Here, a physics-informed deep learning method is proposed that uses deep neural networks but also incorporates flow equations to predict a carbon storage site response to CO2 injection. A 3D synthetic dataset is used to show the effectiveness of this modeling approach.

International Master on «CO2 Geological Storage»

The call of the second edition of the International Master on CO2 Geological Storage is open. The goal of the course is to provide the participants with the scientific and technical knowledge that needs to be addressed for the successful storage of CO2 into geological formations. The programme will cover all aspects so that the students can both understand the work of all specialists who will be involved in CCS projects and further develop their own field of specialization.

Within the special Research Topic of Frontiers about Ocean Artificial Upwelling: In this study, the effect of different intensities of artificial upwelling was investigated combined with two upwelling modes (recurring additions vs. one singular addition) on POC export, sinking matter stoichiometry and remineralization depth.

Baus and Nehr (2021): Potentials and limitations of direct air capturing in the built environment

A novel coupling of HVAC-systems (heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems) with DAC-technology (direct air capturing technology) is proposed to separate CO2 in the exhaust air of buildings and recirculate the CO2-depleted air back into the building.
