Call for Abstracts: Solar Geoengineering Benefits and Risks: Modeling, Impacts, Analogs, Engineering, Ethics, and Governance (AGU 100)

Deadline: 31. July 2019

„With continued unabated increase of greenhouse gas emissions, it is increasingly unlikely that climate change can be limited to prevent significant impacts on society and the ecosystem. Therefore, interest in potential geoengineering schemes is increasing, including solar radiation management (SRM) methods. In this session, we invite abstracts that analyze benefits and side effects of different SRM approaches from global to local scales.“

Hemingway, J.; Rothman, D.; Grant, K.; Rosengard, S.; Eglinton, T.; Derry, L.; Galy, V. (2019): Mineral protection regulates long-term global preservation of natural organic carbon. In: Nature 570 (7760), S. 228–231. DOI: 10.1038/s41586-019-1280-6.

„The balance between photosynthetic organic carbon production and respiration controls atmospheric composition and climate. […] Here we present a global dataset of the distributions of organic carbon activation energy and corresponding radiocarbon ages in soils, sediments and dissolved organic carbon. We find that activation energy distributions broaden over time in all mineral-containing samples.“
