PR Newswire: Cquestr8 raises $300k seed capital to develop safe & permanent carbon sequestration solution

Cquestr8, 2020 winners of the Climate-KIC’s ClimateLaunchpad „Next Big Thing“ prize, has secured funding to develop their unique carbon sequestration solution, leveraging natural processes to safely lock away CO2 as stable ocean bicarbonate. Cquestr8 solutions target hard to decarbonise sectors including cement, lime, and steel production.“

Dipu, Sudhakar; Quaas, Johannes; Quaas, Martin; Rickels, Wilfried; Mülmenstädt, Johannes; Boucher, Olivier (2021): Substantial Climate Response outside the Target Area in an Idealized Experiment of Regional Radiation Management. In Climate 9 (4), p. 66. DOI: 10.3390/cli9040066.

„In this study, we used a coupled climate model (MPI-ESM) with a very idealized setup to investigate the efficacy and risks of CE at a local scale in space and time (regional radiation management, RRM) assuming that cloud modification is technically possible. RM is implemented in the climate model by the brightening of low-level clouds (solar radiation management, SRM) and thinning of cirrus (terrestrial radiation management, TRM).“

Winsberg, Eric (2021): A Modest Defense of Geoengineering Research: a Case Study in the Cost of Learning. In Philos. Technol. DOI: 10.1007/s13347-021-00452-9.

„I use the case study of SRM to develop a framework, based on a theorem by I.J. Good, for thinking about the benefits and costs of acquiring new evidence and for thinking about the conditions under which new evidence could be harmful. I argue that the expected benefits of supporting public research in SRM technologies outweigh the expected costs and harms.“

„As some anthropogenic emissions cannot be zero, to compensate them it will be necessary to remove GHGs from the atmosphere. Among possible methods, the Iron Salt Aerosol (ISA) offers new possibilities, including removal of methane and several other GHGs, as well as carbon dioxide.“
