Discussion: Climate Engineering: Solution or Problem?

„Do leading climate engineering proposals offer a realistic form of response to climate change? What are the major scientific, political, and social challenges to climate engineering’s development? Do the potential benefits of climate engineering research outweigh the risk that it will be used as an excuse not to deal with carbon emissions today?“

Yu, Xiaoyong; et al. (2015): Impacts, effectiveness and regional inequalities of the GeoMIP G1 to G4 solar radiation management scenarios

Yu, Xiaoyong; Moore, John C.; Cui, Xuefeng; Rinke, Annette; Ji, Duoying; Kravitz, Ben; Yoon, Jin-Ho (2015): Impacts, effectiveness and regional inequalities of the GeoMIP G1 to G4 solar radiation management scenarios. In: Global and Planetary Change. DOI: 10.1016/j.gloplacha.2015.02.010

„We evaluate the effectiveness and the regional inequalities of solar radiation management (SRM) in compensating for simultaneous changes in temperature and precipitation caused by increased greenhouse gas concentrations. We analyze the results from Earth System Models under four Geoengineering Model Intercomparison Project (GeoMIP) experiments with a modified form of the Residual Climate Response approach.“

Sundar, Shyam; et al. (2014): Modeling the dynamics of carbon dioxide removal in the atmosphere

Sundar, Shyam; Naresh, Ram; Mishra, Ashish Kumar; Tripathi, Agraj (2014): Modeling the dynamics of carbon dioxide removal in the atmosphere. In: Computational Ecology [&] Software 4 (4).

„In this paper, a nonlinear mathematical model to study the removal/reduction of carbon dioxide by using suitable absorbent (such as aqueous ammonia solution, amines, sodium hydroxide, etc.) near the source of emission and externally introducing liquid species in the atmosphere is presented. Dynamical properties of the model which include local and global stabilities for the equilibrium are analyzed carefully.“
