Carbon Capture Summit USA 2022

October 19 – 20, 2022

Industry leaders will meet at Carbon Capture Summit in California, USA to explore next-generation technologies for carbon capture, utilization, storage, and transportation to meet net-zero emissions targets. The key focus for this year’s event will be “Working in collaboration with Industry” by sharing expertise, building capacity, and providing advice and support so that CCUS can play an integral role in reducing carbon emissions. Government agencies, global corporations, research bodies, and non-government organizations committed to learning and adopting CCUS technologies will participate in this event.

The authors demonstrate new sustainable, solid-state, polyamine-appended, cyanuric acid–stabilized melamine nanoporous networks (MNNs) via dynamic combinatorial chemistry (DCC) at the kilogram scale toward effective and high-capacity carbon dioxide capture.

Green goals require all hands on deck

„China’s ambitious goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2060 means the country is set to achieve net-zero emissions in less than 40 years. In addition to shifting toward cleaner energy sources, including solar and wind power, China has also been working on carbon capture, which makes the technology of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) an essential part of the nation’s green solutions. […] China’s three biggest oil companies-China National Petroleum Corp, China Petrochemical Corp and China National Offshore Oil Corp-have all been actively laying out plans to develop CCUS, which will not only further facilitate the country’s goal to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality, but also help boost their domestic oil output.“

The economics of direct air carbon capture and storage

This paper explores the economics of DACCS. The intent is a thought experiment to show how DACCS deployment (based on different cost assumptions) might affect the global energy system through 2065 while maintaining a net-zero CO2 pathway consistent with a 1.5°C global average temperature increase. The analysis relies on the economic model described in the methodology, in which the actors within the energy system are free to pursue least-cost options in meeting the net-zero CO2 pathway.

Carbon dioxide utilization for enhanced metal recovery (EMR) during mineralization has been recently developed as part of CCUS (carbon capture, utilization, and storage). This paper describes studies on integrating CO2 mineralization and concurrent selective metal extraction from natural olivine.

Bio-oil Sequestration: Prototype Protocol for Measurement, Reporting & Verification

Carbon Direct and Eco-Engineers have developed a prototype protocol (“proto-protocol”) on bio-oil sequestration, the first in a series of science-led draft protocols. In collaboration with Charm Industrial, this analysis focuses on the carbon accounting, life-cycle analysis, and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) foundations for a new carbon removal practice: bio-oil sequestration and geological disposal. It also includes an understanding of the energy requirements in biomass cultivation, harvesting, and conversion as well as a focus on subsurface characterization and operational excellence.
